Our proposal roots in the idea of developing with the landscape and climate conditions instead of against them. Out of that approach emerges a new type of urban area based on regenerative cultures, a gentle situated evolution of the local context, and an international oriented perspective in terms of learning how to deal with current challenges in urban planning.

What if - Akranes becomes the place where people learn to live in synergy with climate change - without coastal protection, the Akranes of the future can become the city where climate change and water rises are a new condition for settlement. Here we don´t try to keep the water out but recognizes it as a characteristic inhabitant of the site. It's cheaper, better, and more beautiful.
What if - The richness of nature, people's enthusiasm and entrepreneurship can create synergy between the world's forces and movements.
What if - A new research district for regenerative cultures within settlement, cultivation, marine restoration, climate adaptation and green energy is established as a new district at Breid. A city where one experiment with new urban formations that resonate with and not against the forces of nature.
Akranes is geographically located in the transition between three significant states,
1) the ocean
2) the lowlands
3) the highlands
What if - this structurally translates into three states, a continuous exchange between the wet, the moist and the dry - in a flowing stream of overlays.
